Ways to connect

Wi-Fi: every phone on the same Wi-Fi network. Nothing goes to the internet.

Hotspot: one phone shares a hotspot and the others join it, for when there is no Wi-Fi.

Bluetooth: no network at all, for a train or a power cut. Phones that have never been paired can find each other.

Nearby: Google's way of finding the phones around you, on phones with Google Play services.

Every way needs the phones to be close together: the same room, the same table.
