Nest Hoppers

Nest Hoppers is a tree with baskets hung up it a row apart, and an egg - or a duckling - that hops straight up from one to the next while they slide underneath. Twelve climbers, ten points a basket.

About Nest Hoppers

The climber only ever goes straight up. Everything else is timing: the baskets above bob and sway, and you let go when the one you are aiming at will be where you land. Catch it and you climb a row and score ten; miss and that climber is gone and the next one starts at the bottom. You get a dozen.

It is a recreation of Ferry Halim's 2001 Flash game The Amazing Dare-Dozen, from the Orisinal collection - rebuilt from a recording of the original rather than from its code, so the baskets of the classic ladder are where they were, moving as they moved.

Three modes. Classic is that measured ladder, and then its baskets again from the bottom, a quarter faster each round and a little shakier, up to three times the original speed. Random Jungle draws a fresh tree every game at a difficulty you choose from one to five - a third of the original's speed at one, the original at three, three times at five. Arcade is the jungle cut into levels of 10 to 100 baskets, starting easy and getting half a step harder each level; the difficulty is not yours to set. The baskets can be made bigger or smaller if the catch is too fine or too forgiving.

Nothing in the tree is random while you are climbing it: a basket's bob and sway are sine waves with periods never shorter than a second and a half, so a run can be timed rather than guessed at, and every pair of neighbouring baskets is reachable from the other.
