The rules of Call Break

Four players, each for themselves, with a full pack of 52: thirteen cards each, and the ace high in every suit. Spades are trumps from the first card.

First everybody calls the tricks they will take: at least one, at most thirteen. Nobody passes, and the calls need not add up to thirteen.

The player after the dealer leads. Follow suit if you can, and beat the best card so far if you can. If you cannot follow, play a spade, and beat any spade already played. The highest spade takes the trick, or else the highest card of the suit led. The table can turn any of these three rules off.

Take at least what you called and you score it, plus a tenth for each trick over; fall short and you lose the whole call. A game is five deals unless the table chooses from three to fifteen, and the highest score wins.
